Fen Farm, Mersea Island, Essex

With spring supposedly sprung, Tom had been keen to get out in the camper van for a few weeks. Up until yesterday I had been able to put him off, but with the sun shining, my bad weather excuse would work no more (I don't mind admitting to being a "fair weather" camper) and we set off on our first camping trip of the year, a last minute trip to Fen Farm. Homing Park, Whitstable, Kent

I must admit that I was slightly put off by the fact that Homing described itself as a ‘Holiday Park’ – I had visions of organised activities and a campsite equivalent of Butlins.  Thankfully, it’s not like that at all!  The static caravans are completely separate to the camping area but all are welcome to make use of the facilities such as a bar/restaurant, laundry, small swimming pool, tennis court, five-a-side pitch and children’s playground.  There is no shop at the site. Hook Farm, Uplyme (Lyme Regis), Dorset

A picturesque and peaceful setting for our first campervanning trip. It's a quiet site (no large groups), ideal for couples and families. Most breeds of dog are welcome. The pitches are relatively private thanks to the natural screening and terraced landscape. Cliff House Park, Sizewell

This was the camp site that we visited on the same day as we picked up the campervan. We picked it mainly because it wasn't too far to drive and because it looked good on their website. We had no problem booking on the day, but the website does advise advance booking and minimum lengths of stay. (more…)
