Despite the website address, Gannies Farm campsite is not a large caravan park. The site is a small camping field directly in front of a farmer’s house and is accessed off a narrow country lane that only leads to the campsite and a couple of neighbouring farms. It’s easy to miss the small sign opposite the entrance to the site (as we did!) and end up at the farm at the end of the lane. We approached the site through the nearby village of Waddington, a very picturesque village with a stream running alongside the main road and a couple of pubs which had plenty of people sat outside when we passed although we didn’t get time to sample them for ourselves. Grouse Hill campsite is hidden at the end of a long drive that’s accessed from behind The Flask pub on the A171. We approached from Scarborough and didn’t see any signs for the campsite, although if you miss it (or if you’re approaching from Whitby) there’ another entrance road that is signed.
